UMO has a decade of experience providing specialist mentoring for students with autism, ADHD or other neurodiverse conditions. It is available through DSA and directly through HEIs.

What is Specialist Neurodiversity Mentoring?
Students can be allocated Specialist Mentoring if they have Autism or ADHD and are studying in the UK and have applied for DSA. Universities can also fund this directly to support their students.
UMO’s Specialist Autism, ADHD and Neurodiversity mentors help to guide, develop and recognise the student’s abilities so they are able to achieve their potential at university.
The Specialist Mentor supports the student to make the transition to university, obtaining a sense of belonging within the university environment, develop skills to help with social interaction, understand the norms of the university, access services and learn to advocate for themselves.
What do Mentoring Sessions involve?
Sessions are designed to be adaptable to each individual, to provide consistent, ongoing support with practical strategies. Sessions are with an experienced mentor specialised in ASC and ADHD. Sessions are usually weekly for 30-60 minutes and be can be in-person or remote (online).
The specialist mentor works with the student on their unique challenges, helps them highlight their strengths and manage their workload.
The Specialist Mentor works with the student to implement strategies that allows them to better manage their emotional state and wellbeing, separate out experiences that are personal rather than specific to their university, improve time and workload management, and overall improve the university and social experience.
