🧭 Disabled Students’ Allowance (DSA) Application Flowchart

A step-by-step guide to getting support for your mental health, neurodiversity or disability while you study

Step 1: Check Eligibility

  • Have a disability under the Equality Act 2010
  • Condition must last 12+ months and affect your studies

Step 2: Apply for DSA

  • Apply online or by post via Student Finance England
  • Tick the box to apply for DSA
  • You don’t need to apply for full student finance

Step 3: Submit Medical Evidence

  • Upload an EHCP, GP letter or diagnostic report
  • If needed, complete the DSA Disability Evidence Form
  • Ask your doctor or mental health practitioner to complete the form

Step 4: Book Your Needs Assessment

  • Once approved, book an in-person or remote assessment
  • The 2-hour session is covered by DSA
  • Assessors will help you identify the right support

Step 5: Receive Your DSA2 Letter

  • Your DSA2 letter lists your approved support
  • This includes mentoring, software or equipment
  • You must contact providers to activate support
