Recruitment To Workplace Transition
What Is the RWT?
UMO’s Recruitment to Workplace Transition (RWT) Project is transforming the way new employees are supported as they enter the workplace.
The RWT programme consists of tailored transition mentoring sessions and the implementation of the OneSpace — UMO’s Mental Health, Wellbeing, Neurodiversity, and Disability Passport (MHWNDP) — to facilitate a smoother integration into employment.
UMO’s research highlights the critical role of proactive mental health and wellbeing support in increasing employee confidence, engagement, and retention.

Personalised Support
Provides individuals with 5-7 RWT Specialist Transition Mentoring sessions, designed to guide them through the shift from university or previous employment into a new workplace.
Proactive
Creates a dedicated space to discuss the emotions and uncertainties that come with starting a new job, navigating expectations, and setting goals for the future.
Empowering
Encourages new recruits to take ownership of their needs, build confidence, and apply for roles where they can thrive.
Inclusive
The OneSpace Passport ensures that individuals can communicate their needs effectively, enabling a workplace that actively supports mental health, neurodiversity, disability, and overall wellbeing.
How does the RWT help New Employees?
By combining specialist mentoring with the OneSpace Passport, the RWT programme equips new recruits with tools for success, increasing confidence and workplace engagement.
New employees who have access to structured support are more likely to excel in their roles, sustain employment, and feel fulfilled in their professional journey.
Currently, no equivalent provision exists to support employees in the transition from recruitment to active workplace participation.

How does the RWT help New Recruits?
The Recruitment to Workplace Transition (RWT) Programme enhances workplace productivity by ensuring new employees feel confident, supported, and ready to contribute from day one.
Through RWT Specialist Transition Mentoring, new recruits develop essential workplace skills, including:
- Time Management – Strategies to stay organised and meet deadlines efficiently.
- Focus & Engagement – Tools to improve concentration and reduce workplace distractions.
- Resilience & Stress Management – Techniques to handle workplace pressures effectively.
- Communication & Collaboration – Building confidence in professional discussions and teamwork.
The Mental Health, Wellbeing, Neurodiversity, and Disability Passport (MHWNDP) also helps employees communicate their needs clearly, leading to improved accommodations, reduced stress, and a smoother work experience.
By fostering a supportive and structured transition, RWT reduces presenteeism, minimises workplace stress, and ensures new hires adapt quickly and perform at their best.

How does the RWT help Employers?
The RWT programme fosters a workplace culture that prioritises mental health, wellbeing, neurodiversity, and disability from the outset.
By supporting new employees through their transition, organisations can expect:
- Higher staff retention rates
- Faster skill development
- A more engaged and confident workforce
- Reduced presenteeism and absenteeism
Investing in early-stage support creates a healthier, more productive, and inclusive work environment.
